As a Alcohol & Drug Counselor (and a LPC Associate under the supervision of Greg Laliberte, LPC-S), I have had the privilege to work with a wide range of people who are dealing with problematic substance use. There is a reoccurring theme that I am seeing:
- Alcohol & Drug Use
- Relationship Problems
- Career Difficulty
Without trying to sound like a reductionist, if we could stop using alcohol & drugs, commit to our family/friends/community, and engage in a career that meets our needs, we would most likely have more good days than bad; and the days that are bad, we would be more resilient during the darker periods.
So, it would appear that we are responsible for these three areas. This reminds me of Deuteronomy 30:19 which reminds us that we have a choice between life or death. Choose Life!
